Increase The Range Of Your Wi-Fi Laptops

Nowadays many new notebook computers contain built-in Wi-Fi network adapters. All these adapters are mainly integrated circuit chips. All other wireless laptops utilize external network adapters such as PCMCIA cards or USB adapters. If you are using a notebook with public hotspots, a strong Wi-Fi signal is necessary to ensure successful Internet access and good connection speed.

If you have a wireless laptop having limited range, it is likely to suffer from slow or dropped Internet connections. You can consider these three options for improving the signal range of your Wi-Fi in your wireless laptop:

1. Install an external Wi-Fi antenna- Try to install an external Wi-Fi antenna on your laptop. See that your laptop supports add-on antennas. Just look for some special jack which is similar in appearance to a headphone or microphone jack. These jacks are sometimes called "SMA jacks”.

2. Use USB wireless network adapter with external antenna- An USB Wi-Fi adapter hooks on to the back or side of your laptop with a short USB cable. Always remember that the external antenna on these adapters improves signal range and the antenna can be adjusted or pointed for fine tuning. While using this option, your laptop must have an open USB port.

3. Check transmission power settings- Remember that some network adapters support by adjusting their transmission power. All these settings can be adjusted through adapter's driver interface program, along with other settings for wireless profiles and Wi-Fi channel number. All transmission power should be set to "maximum" or "100%" to ensure the strongest signal possible.

With these three steps you can increase the range of your Wi-Fi laptops. From now, stop worrying about those disturbing Wi-Fi signals in your wireless laptops and always feel good.
