Some Security Tips For Wi-Fi

Your very own Wi-Fi hotspots present a special set of security issues. Most of the public hotspots in hotels and cafes broadcast their SSIDs, lack WEP or WPA encryption and do not bother with MAC address filtering. You can take these ten security tips for the security of public hotspot. These tips will also protect your PC Health.

1. Firstly you have to make sure that you are connected to a legitimate access point- The first step is obvious, but it is very important. Access points are springing more and more everyday. If you do not take this protection, then hijackers can directly connect to your databases to collect the passwords and usernames that you use to sign in. These hijackers can even collect credit card data from your new accounts.

Just remember not to try to connect in places where there is no sign for legitimate provider. Try to check the list of available SSIDs to make sure that you have connected to the right one. Just make it a point to turn off the ad-hoc mode. Turn off your Wi-Fi card entirely as soon as you are done.

2. Try to encrypt your sensitive data- You should always try to encrypt your sensitive data. Sometimes when you enter your username and password to check your bank account balances someone nearby can follow those data. You use encryption in other contexts also. While sending a sensitive file via email, encrypt it first with a password.

With these two tips you can protect your Wi-Fi connection while using it through public hotspots.
