Install Device Driver in Windows XP

Thousands of hardware accessories are supported by Microsoft Windows XP such as printers, network adapters and digital cameras that can extend your computer’s capability. Windows XP uses Device Driver Software to communicate with the hardware. Every hardware device that you connect to your computer has its own device driver. The manufacturer may update the driver for your device to improve its performance, to correct a problem or to enhance security.

Mostly, you can connect and use the hardware accessories without any problem. However, you might face a problem while installing a new piece of hardware, or after using an accessory you might develop a problem that previously worked correctly.
The first steps to resolve your hardware problem is to reinstall a device driver. When you will do this your Windows XP will detect and install the hardware as if it is brand new.

Just follow these simple steps and install your Device Driver.
1. First log on to your computer as an administrator.
2. Click Start, then right click on My Computer and then click Manage
3. Under your system tools, click Device Manager
4. In your right pane, expand a category to find the hardware that you need to reinstall.
5. Right-click on the device and click Uninstall.
6. In your Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

If you see a message asking to restart your computer, click Yes or restart your computer manually. After your computer restarts, Windows XP will be automatically detected and reinstall the device driver.
